Britain Awaits Swedish Premiere

On August 12, the European Championship for Ladies will be played this year in Leeds with the United Kingdom, Sweden, Austria and Finland as participating nations. Sweden faces an exciting challenge already in the opening match against hosts, Great Britain.

The IFAF Women’s European Championship Finals 2019 takes place 12-17 August at South Leeds Stadium, the John Charles Center for Sport in Leeds, UK.

At the last European Championship tournament, which was played in 2015 in Spain, Sweden finished in sixth place. However, the team has made a lot of progress since then and were evenly matched when they last played Finland – the same Finland that won the tournament convincingly in 2015 and thus enter the tournament as reigning European champions.

Sweden’s first match gets underway 12 August, against hosts, Great Britain, at 1900 local time / 2000 in Sweden.  The countries have met three times before and each time the GB team has won: 27-10 in 2013, 26-14 2014 and 30-14 2015.

After Great Britain, familiar foes Finland are waiting, 14 August, before finishing up the tournament on 17 August against Austria. The tournament is played as a ’round robin’ group, where the winner with the best record takes home the European gold – meaning that at least two victories will be required to compete for the gold, a difficult but far from impossible task for the Swedes.

Swedish Head Coach, Christian Forsman, travels with a strong team to Leeds consisting of 43 players from six different teams – here is the entire Swedish squad – and the Swedish American Football Association will report daily from the tournament on and via social media.

All matches will also be broadcast live on Youtube and Facebook and the official website for the tournament is .  Sales for advance tickets have now finished but can be purchased on the day – £5, or £3 for under 12s.

Team Sweden Roster Announced

Per, 9 July 2019

Team Sweden Head Coach Christian Forsman has shared the 43 players to the Swedish Women’s National Team for the 2019 European Championships.

Coach Forsman shared:

“It has been a long and difficult process to get the final squad where there has been incredible evenness between many players and we really had to go through all aspects before we made the decisions.

There has been incredible competition for roster spots building up to this tournament and I am grateful for how many players have been available to make this trip as part of the National Team. We have a really strong team and I look forward to the challenges during the European Championships this summer.”
